Quick answer
Do you need a net worth certificate for visa applications?
A net worth certificate for visa files is usually optional supporting evidence. Official pages for the UK, Canada, the US, Germany and Australia ask for proof of funds such as bank statements, income tax returns and sponsor letters. A CA-signed certificate with UDIN helps by summarising assets those statements do not show, such as property and investments.
- Bank statements remain the core proof of funds
- UK students must hold funds for 28 days in a row
- Canada study permit: CAD 23,448 a year from 1 Sep 2026
- Sponsors need their own evidence and proof of relationship
What is a net worth certificate for visa purposes?
It is the same CA certificate used for loans and tenders, prepared for a consulate: assets and liabilities of the applicant or sponsor on a date, often in rupees and the destination currency, signed by a practising CA with a UDIN. It explains wealth; it does not replace evidence of liquid funds.
Visa officers judge whether you can pay for the trip or course and whether the money is genuinely yours. A certificate that lists a flat, mutual funds and fixed deposits gives context to a bank balance. Read our main net worth certificate guide for the formula, valuation rules and UDIN checks.
What do official visa pages ask for, country by country?
Each country tests funds differently, and none of the official pages below lists a CA net worth certificate by name. Quotes and figures were checked on 30 October 2026.
| Country and visa | What the official page asks for | Where a CA certificate fits |
|---|---|---|
| UK visitor | Financial documents that clearly show access to funds, such as bank statements detailing the origin of funds, proof of earnings, or business registration documents and recent invoices | Optional context for property and investments; liquid funds still shown by statements |
| UK student | £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 outside London for up to 9 months, held for at least 28 days in a row, ending within 31 days of applying | Little role: the test is cash held, not net worth |
| Canada visitor | Bank statement with at least 6 months of account details including balances; no minimum amount published | Supports a statement that shows modest balances but larger holdings |
| Canada study permit | CAD 23,448 for one person per year for applications from 1 September 2026, excluding tuition and travel; proof such as GIC, education loan, 6 months of bank statements, or a sponsor letter | Can back a parent's sponsor letter |
| US student (F-1) | Evidence of financial ability, including family bank statements, sponsor documents, scholarship or aid letters, employer salary letter; bring it to the visa interview | Often filed with parents' bank statements |
| US visitor (B1/B2) | We could not retrieve travel.state.gov; no official minimum found on pages checked | Carry only if it supports the DS-160 answers |
| Schengen (Germany example) | Bank statements for the last 3 months stamped by the bank, ITR acknowledgments for the last two assessment years or Form 16; sponsor letter and sponsor statements if sponsored | Not on the checklist; add only as extra evidence |
| Australia student | Funds for travel, tuition, living and school costs for the first 12 months, or annual income above a specified amount from spouse, partner or parents | Can summarise a parent's wider assets |

Does a student, tourist or business visa need a different certificate?
Yes, the person certified and the emphasis change. Students usually rely on a parent as sponsor, tourists show their own funds and ties, and business visitors show company standing as well as personal means.
| Visa type | Usual subject of the certificate | What to stress |
|---|---|---|
| Student | Parent or other sponsor | Liquid funds for year one, education loan sanction, income in ITRs |
| Tourist or family visit | Applicant, or spouse for a joint trip | Savings, regular income, property at home |
| Business visitor | Applicant and sometimes the company | Company financials, GST registration, salary or drawings |
| Parents visiting children abroad | Parents themselves, or the child abroad as sponsor | Pension or rental income, savings, home ownership |
One certificate covers one person or one jointly held set of assets.
Can parents sponsor a visa and show their net worth?
Yes. Sponsors are common for students and visitors, but the sponsor's money must be evidenced in the sponsor's own name, with proof of the relationship and a letter saying what support they will give.
- UK: the visitor guide asks for evidence of what support is provided, that the sponsor can support themselves and their dependants, and the relationship.
- Canada: IRCC accepts a letter from the person giving money stating their job, relationship, dependants and amount of support, with ID or business registration.
- Germany: a sponsor letter, passport copy, sponsor's last 3 months of stamped bank statements, and a birth or marriage certificate for parents or spouse.
A net worth certificate for a sponsoring parent should be in that parent's name and match the figures in their ITRs.
What documents go with a net worth certificate for visa applications?
The certificate sits on top of the documents the checklist already demands. Without those, a certificate carries little weight.
| Document | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Bank statements for the period the checklist sets | Primary proof of liquid funds |
| ITR acknowledgments for recent years | Shows declared income; Germany asks for two assessment years |
| Salary slips, Form 16 or employer letter | Shows regular income and job |
| FD receipts, demat and mutual fund statements | Back the investment lines in the certificate |
| Property deed and valuation report | Back the property line |
| Sponsor letter and relationship proof | Needed when someone else pays |
| Education loan sanction letter | Student funds evidence accepted by IRCC and others |
| CA net worth certificate with UDIN | Summary of assets and liabilities |

Which currency should a visa net worth certificate use?
Show rupees first and add the destination currency for the totals, naming the rate and its date. Consulates read the converted figure against their own thresholds, such as the UK monthly amount or the Canadian yearly amount.
No official page we read prescribes a rate. Consistency matters: the converted totals should agree with any converted balances in your cover letter or application form.
How recent should a net worth certificate for visa use be?
Date it close to your application and in line with the bank statements you file, because officers compare the two. Old certificates invite questions about what changed since.
Reference points from official pages: the UK lists bank statements or letters issued more than 1 year before applying as less useful, the UK Student route needs the 28-day period to end within 31 days of applying, Canada wants 6 months of account history for visitors, and Germany wants the last 3 months of statements.
How do you prepare a net worth certificate for visa filing?
Work backwards from the consulate's checklist and your appointment date, then give the CA one consistent set of papers. Five steps cover most cases.
- 1
Read the current checklist
Download the list for your visa type from the official site or the visa centre for your city, and note any amount, holding period or statement period.
- 2
Decide whose assets are shown
Choose the applicant or the sponsor. Sponsors also prepare a support letter and relationship proof.
- 3
Freeze one date
Collect bank, demat, mutual fund and loan statements as on the same day, close to the application.
- 4
Brief the CA on currency
Tell the CA which currency the consulate uses so totals can be shown in rupees and that currency with the rate stated.
- 5
Check before you file
Match passport name and number, totals in words, and the UDIN on the portal before the certificate goes into the file.
What mistakes get a visa net worth certificate ignored?
The usual problems are unexplained recent deposits, property presented as if it were cash, figures that clash with ITRs, and certificates in the wrong person's name.
- Fresh lump sums. UK caseworkers may look into money that arrived recently; keep the trail of where it came from.
- Counting illiquid assets as funds. A flat is wealth, not money available for tuition.
- Income mismatch. Holdings far above income in your ITR filings draw attention.
- Sponsor confusion. Student's name on the certificate, parent's assets in the schedules.
- Missing UDIN. Consulates can check it on ICAI's portal.
- Translations ignored. The UK wants a full translation with the translator's details for any document not in English or Welsh.
Where do you get a net worth certificate for visa use in Delhi?
From a practising chartered accountant you approach directly, verified on ICAI's CA Connect. We do not take orders or quote fees for certificates because ICAI reserves them for practising CAs, but our list of CA firms in Delhi is a factual starting point.

Frequently asked questions
Is a net worth certificate for a Canada visa required?
IRCC's study permit page lists proof such as a GIC, education loan, six months of bank statements, scholarship letters and sponsor letters. It does not name a CA net worth certificate. You can add one as extra evidence of a sponsor's assets.
Do US consulates accept a CA net worth certificate?
For F-1 students, DHS lists family bank statements and sponsor documents as evidence and says applicants must bring evidence to the interview. A CA certificate can sit in that folder. We found no official minimum amount for visitor visas.
Is a net worth certificate needed for a UK visa?
No. The UK visitor guide asks for documents that show access to funds, and Student visa applicants must show set monthly amounts held for 28 days. A certificate is only supporting context for property and investments.
What do Schengen consulates in India ask for?
The German Embassy's tourism checklist asks for three months of bank-stamped statements, ITR acknowledgments for two assessment years or Form 16, and sponsor documents if sponsored. Other Schengen states publish their own lists, so use the one for your destination.
What does Australia ask for in a student visa?
Home Affairs asks for evidence of funds covering travel, tuition, living and school costs for the first 12 months, or proof that a spouse, partner or parent not travelling earns above a specified annual income. Check the current amount on the Home Affairs site before you apply.
Can a net worth certificate replace bank statements?
No. Every official checklist we read relies on bank statements or similar records for liquid funds. The certificate adds a summary of wider assets and liabilities; it does not stand in for the statements.
Can I show property in a visa net worth certificate?
Yes, with the deed and ideally a valuer's report. Officers treat property as evidence of ties and wealth, not as cash for the trip, so keep liquid funds visible separately.
Does each family member need a separate certificate?
Usually one certificate is issued for the person paying, often a parent or spouse. Other travellers file proof of relationship. Check whether your consulate wants evidence per applicant.
Can an NRI get a net worth certificate from an Indian CA?
Yes, for assets and liabilities in India and abroad that the CA can verify from statements. Foreign assets need foreign statements, and the CA states the exchange rate used.
Does a visa net worth certificate need a UDIN?
Yes. ICAI has required a UDIN on all CA certificates since 1 February 2019, and anyone holding the certificate can check it on udin.icai.org.
