Quick answer
Is Udyog Aadhaar still valid in 2026?
No. Udyog Aadhaar was replaced by Udyam registration from 1 July 2020, and the government extended the validity of old UAM registrations only up to 30 June 2022. Businesses that still hold just a Udyog Aadhaar number must register on the Udyam portal, udyamregistration.gov.in, which is free and paperless.
- Udyam notification dated 26 June 2020 (S.O. 2119(E))
- Last UAM validity extension: up to 30 June 2022
- Udyam registration fee on the official portal: ₹0
- Micro limit from 1 April 2025: ₹2.5 crore investment, ₹10 crore turnover
What was Udyog Aadhaar?
Udyog Aadhaar was a one-page online memorandum that micro, small and medium enterprises filed under the MSMED Act, 2006 to get an Udyog Aadhaar Number. It was introduced in September 2015 and replaced the older Entrepreneurs Memorandum (EM Part I and II) filed with district industries centres.
The idea was self-declaration: the owner entered Aadhaar, business details and investment figures, and got a number at once. That number was used for MSME benefits such as priority sector lending and government tenders. Because it relied largely on self-declared data, the government later moved to a system linked to PAN and GST records.
People still search for "Udyog Aadhar card" or "aadhar udyog". There is no separate card today: the current document is the Udyam Registration Certificate.
When did Udyog Aadhaar end? Official timeline
Udyog Aadhaar was replaced by Udyam registration through a notification dated 26 June 2020, with the new portal live from 1 July 2020. Old UAM registrations were then given time to migrate, and the final extension kept them valid only up to 30 June 2022.

Udyog Aadhaar to Udyam: what must old UAM holders do?
If you only have a Udyog Aadhaar number, you must register on the Udyam portal. The portal says those with EM-II or UAM registration "will have to re-register themselves", and it offers a "UAM Migration to Udyam" option that starts from your old number.
Migration is not a renewal of the old number. You get a new Udyam Registration Number and an e-certificate, and your enterprise is classified again using the current limits. Your old UAM number should no longer be quoted on invoices, bank forms or tender bids. Our MSME registration page explains the fresh registration in detail.
- 1
Find your old details
Keep your Udyog Aadhaar number, the Aadhaar of the person who filed it, and the business PAN ready.
- 2

Type udyamregistration.gov.in yourself. Do not follow ads or links that promise "Udyog Aadhaar renewal".
- 3
Choose UAM migration
Pick the option for those already having registration as UAM, or Assisted UAM Migration if your UAM was filed through assisted filing.
- 4
Verify and fill current data
Verify with Aadhaar, then enter PAN and GSTIN details, bank details, activity and NIC codes, and employee numbers.
- 5
Submit and download
Submit to get the Udyam Registration Number and download the certificate. Update it with banks, buyers and portals you deal with.
How do you register on Udyam for free?
Udyam registration is done online at udyamregistration.gov.in, needs only an Aadhaar number to begin, and costs nothing. The portal itself says the registration process is totally free and that no costs or fees are to be paid to anyone.
For a proprietorship, the proprietor's Aadhaar is used. For a partnership firm, LLP or company, the Aadhaar of the managing partner, designated partner or director is used along with the entity's PAN. PAN and GSTIN details have been required since 1 April 2021; a business that is not required to have GST can still register.
The full walk-through, documents list and NIC code tips are on our Udyam (MSME) registration page. If you do not yet have a business entity, start with a sole proprietorship in Delhi, which most small traders and service providers use before they register on Udyam.
What are the MSME limits in 2026?
Since 1 April 2025, a micro enterprise has investment in plant, machinery or equipment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore. Small and medium limits rose too, so many units that were "small" under Udyog Aadhaar now count as micro.
An enterprise must stay within both limits for its band. If either investment or turnover crosses the limit, it moves to the next band. Turnover and investment figures are taken from income tax and GST data linked to your PAN.
| Category | Investment up to | Turnover up to |
|---|---|---|
| Micro | ₹2.5 crore | ₹10 crore |
| Small | ₹25 crore | ₹100 crore |
| Medium | ₹125 crore | ₹500 crore |

Udyog Aadhaar vs Udyam registration: what changed?
The main change is verification. Udyog Aadhaar relied on what the owner declared, while Udyam links the registration to PAN and GST data, uses a combined investment and turnover test, and issues a certificate that banks and buyers can check online.
| Point | Udyog Aadhaar (2015 to 2020) | Udyam (from July 2020) |
|---|---|---|
| Status in 2026 | Not valid after 30 June 2022 | Current MSME registration |
| Data source | Self-declared memorandum | Aadhaar plus PAN and GST linked data |
| Classification | Older MSME definitions | Investment and turnover limits, revised from 1 April 2025 |
| Document | Udyog Aadhaar acknowledgement | Udyam Registration Certificate (also accepted through DigiLocker) |
| Government fee | Nil | Nil |

How to spot fake Udyog Aadhaar and Udyam websites
The only government portal is udyamregistration.gov.in, and it carries the warning "Beware of Fake Sites". Any site that charges a "government fee", offers "Udyog Aadhaar renewal" or sells a "Udyog Aadhar card" is not the official portal.
Look-alike sites copy the government colours and use words such as registrar or MSME in the address. Some are free web pages built on site builders. Check these points before entering your Aadhaar:
- The address ends in .gov.in and is exactly udyamregistration.gov.in.
- No payment page appears anywhere in the process.
- You are not asked to send Aadhaar or PAN images by WhatsApp or email.
A consultant may charge for helping you. That is a service charge for their time, not a government fee, and it should be agreed before you share any documents.
Does a Udyam number replace my Udyog Aadhaar everywhere?
Yes. Banks, government buyers and large customers now ask for the Udyam number and certificate, and the Ministry's own memoranda replaced references to Udyog Aadhaar with the Udyam Certificate in July 2020. Update every place that still shows the old number.
- Bank loan and overdraft files, especially for priority sector lending.
- Vendor registration forms with large buyers and PSUs.
- Invoices, letterheads and your website footer.
- Your accountant's records, so MSME status is shown correctly in your books and in buyers' payment reports.
If you run a manufacturing or trading unit in Wazirpur, Narela or Okhla and your old paperwork still carries a UAM number, our CA in Wazirpur page and the accounting services page explain how we help keep registrations and books aligned. For GST, see GST registration in Delhi.
Frequently asked questions
Is Udyog Aadhaar and Udyam registration the same?
No. Udyam registration replaced Udyog Aadhaar from 1 July 2020. Both are MSME registrations under the MSMED Act, 2006, but Udyam uses PAN and GST linked data and current limits. An old Udyog Aadhaar number is not valid after 30 June 2022, so you need a Udyam number.
How do I convert Udyog Aadhaar to Udyam?
Go to udyamregistration.gov.in and choose the option for those already having registration as UAM, or Assisted UAM Migration if yours was filed through assisted filing. Verify with Aadhaar, enter PAN, GST and business details, and submit. You get a new Udyam number and certificate. There is no fee.
Can I download my old Udyog Aadhaar certificate?
The old certificate is of little use now because UAM validity ended on 30 June 2022. What banks and buyers accept is the Udyam Registration Certificate, which you can download from the Udyam portal or show through DigiLocker after you register or migrate.
What is the fee for Udyog Aadhaar or Udyam registration?
The government fee is nil. The Udyam portal says registration is totally free and no fees are to be paid to anyone. If a website asks for a government fee, it is not the official portal. A consultant may charge a service fee for helping, which you should agree in advance.
Is Udyog Aadhar number needed for GST registration?
No. GST registration does not need a Udyog Aadhaar or Udyam number. The link runs the other way: Udyam asks for your GSTIN if you have one, and businesses that do not need GST can still register on Udyam with PAN and Aadhaar.
Can one business hold two Udyam registrations?
One enterprise gets one Udyam registration. If you run several activities, such as manufacturing and services, add them as activities and NIC codes within the same registration instead of creating a second one.
I registered Udyog Aadhaar in 2018. Is my MSME status still valid?
Not through that number. Your UAM registration lapsed after 30 June 2022, the last extension date. To claim MSME status today, register on Udyam using the UAM migration option. Your category will be set using the limits in force from 1 April 2025.
Who can help me move from Udyog Aadhaar to Udyam in Delhi?
You can do it yourself on the portal in one sitting. If your data is messy, for example a changed PAN, a new partner or GST mismatches, a CA or compliance firm from our Delhi listings can help. Any such firm should quote its charge in writing before it starts.
